THE 3RD WORLD

I knew that some of the places I was going to visit were not going to be that "civilised" but I wasn't really expecting what I saw in Guyana. Rubbish filled streets, beggars, open sewers and rubbish burning on the side of the street, and apparently they had cleaned a lot of the place up for the cricket. I top of that we found our accommodation was not really up to scratch and we were paying quite a bit, so we decided to pay just a little bit more and moved into the same hotel all the cricket players were staying in. The place had a pool, which was necessary because it was bloody hot and you couldn't go anywhere near the beach for fear of catching some terrible disease.

Because we were staying in the same hotel as the Black Caps we were able to have a few, in some cases a lot, drinks which was great. And they had the same thoughts of the place as I did, some of them said it was worse than the worse places in India which I'm sure isn't a good thing.

Probably the best thing about the place is that it is pretty cheap, you can go out and have a meal and a few drinks for only about $US10, and the money is pretty cool to they have $1,000 notes down to $1 coins. We didn't really do many touristy things while we were there, in fact we hardly left the hotel except to go to the cricket, we did go to the zoo and saw some rather exotic animals. While we were there the monkeys escaped which was a bit of humour, no one really seemed to care though.

Next up is Grenada for NZ most import 3 games of the super 8's.
